Fill level: how much should I add?
- Minimum fill: to the first line ≈ 1 liter.
- Maximum fill: 2/3 of the container. Leave the top third empty, as the mixture expands during freezing/fermenting.
- Typical yield at max fill (2/3): about 2.5 liters of ice cream or yogurt.
Tip: For proper operation, keep at least 1/3 filled; below this the machine may not work optimally.
How many servings is one batch?
- Ice cream: about 12 servings
- Yogurt: about 5 large servings
How loud is Erika?
During ice-cream production, Erika operates at around 55 dB (quiet conversation level).
What temperatures does Erika reach?
- Ice-making program: chamber temperature approx. −22 °C during production.
- Pre-cool function: cools down to approx. −35 °C.
- To reach −35 °C, extend the preset pre-cool time from 5 to 10 minutes.
Can I make vegan yogurt and vegan ice with Erika?
Yes. Replace cream/milk with coconut milk or unsweetened soy milk.
For vegan yogurt, use soy yogurt with live cultures or starter cultures as a base.
Note: Vegan cultures typically need ~12 hours to multiply for a creamy result.
How do I make yogurt with Erika (basics)?
You’ll need milk/plant milk and yogurt cultures (or plain yogurt with live cultures). Warm the milk to about 38–40 °C, add cultures, and let Erika’s yogurt program maintain temperature for the required time. For detailed tips and alternatives (thickeners, consistency), see your included guide.
Cleaning
- Dishwasher-safe: ice container, paddle, lid, measuring cup.
- Hand-clean: machine housing and ice-cream scoop (wipe with a damp cloth).
Always dry all parts thoroughly before reassembly.
Accessories available
- Ice-cream scoop for easy portioning.
- Storage containers for hygienic freezing/keeping of ice and yogurt.
Paddle broken – what to check first
Always ask whether the lid was opened during operation.
Without the lid in place, the paddle lacks stability and can break at the drive coupling. If this occurs, the entire unit must be replaced. This is incorrect handling, not a product defect.
Error codes and NTC basics
Error code E2
Indicates the NTC sensor circuit is open.
Action: Power off and disconnect from mains, then a qualified technician can open the unit to check whether the NTC connector on the power board is loose. If the fault remains, service is required.
What is an NTC (plain explanation)?
An NTC thermistor (Negative Temperature Coefficient) is an electronic part whose resistance decreases as temperature rises. It helps the machine sense and control temperature.
Can an NTC fail?
Yes. If an NTC is faulty, temperature control/heating/cooling can malfunction. A service technician can diagnose and replace the component if needed.
Safety & best-practice tips
- Do not overfill; keep within 1/3–2/3 of the container.
- For fastest freezing, pre-cool the bowl (use the 10-minute setting if you need maximum chill).
- Place Erika on a stable, level surface to minimize vibration and noise.
- Never run the machine without the lid in place.
